Enthusiast Place: Phuket's electronic music playground

The Enthusiast Place studio lit deep red, a grid of framed record sleeves covering the back wall behind a CDJ and mixer setup, a patterned rug running across the front of the booth.

On Srisoonthorn Road in Phuket's Thalang district, there is a room kitted with the gear most DJs only get to touch on someone else's club night: Pioneer CDJ-3000s, a DJM-V10, Technics turntables, an Ecler rotary mixer, and a bench of hardware synths from Elektron, Moog, Korg and Arturia. Enthusiast Place opened in 2023, and calls itself an Electronic Music Playground. It is not a community radio station in the way the rest of the coalition is. It is a studio and creative space that happens to broadcast to the world.

A studio you can play in

Enthusiast Place is built to be played in. The room runs DJ practice, modular and hardware synthesis, and live multi-camera recording against a projection wall. It also teaches: a five-lesson DJ course and single lessons for anyone starting out. The equipment is professional, and the point is getting people onto it. A selector without a club residency or a home rig can come in, learn the setup, and record something that outlasts a single night.

On the air through RTS.FM

The broadcast side runs through RTS.FM, the international streaming network Enthusiast Place partners with. Sessions recorded in the Phuket room go out to RTS.FM's global audience, which is how a studio in Thalang reaches listeners who will never visit it. In July 2024, the RTS.FM x Enthusiast Place Phuket stream carried Holu, Sher and Lampasova. All three are regional names, credible without being marquee international guests, but a set cut in a Phuket studio that goes out on an international network travels a great deal further than the room it was recorded in.

An open door every Tuesday

The community work is literal. Every Tuesday at 7pm, Enthusiast Place runs Open Door Day, free and open to anyone curious about the music, the gear, or the people around it. Walk in on a Tuesday and you can stand over a CDJ-3000 you would otherwise only meet in a club booth. The DJ courses run on the same logic, putting the equipment in front of people who are only starting out.

"No booking, no fee, no agenda."

Part of the coalition

That instinct, doors open and gear shared, is what makes Enthusiast Place a natural part of Airtime Asia: the independent, decentralized coalition of underground radio platforms and studios from across the continent. From the 13th to the 16th of August 2026, the coalition gathers across Da Nang and Hoi An in Vietnam, and the Phuket studio belongs in that company.
