A set is going out live from Yangon on a Twitch channel tagged #shelterygn, and when the last track fades it will not vanish. The Shelter saves it to YouTube, into a growing run of sessions it calls Shelter's Archive. That is the working idea behind the place: an independent online music platform that catches the city's sound as it happens and keeps it where anyone, anywhere, can play it back.
An independent stream for Myanmar's music
The Shelter describes itself as an independent online music platform, a collective and a cultural community space based in Yangon, built to carry the most varied music Myanmar has to offer. The model is refreshingly direct. Sets stream live on Twitch, then land in the YouTube archive, so a night that happened once can be heard for years. The sound refuses a single lane. One session leans into minimal and melodic techno; the next runs to drum and bass, hyperpop, breakcore, tech house, even disco. The whole point is range, not a house style. The archive on YouTube reaches back to early 2025, and new sessions are still landing through the middle of 2026.
The names on the archive
The artists are Myanmar's own. F3LiX and Thur5tan work the melodic, hypnotic end of techno. COSTA pulls drum and bass toward something experimental and tribal. softniii careers through hyperpop and breakcore, while SA VE keeps to tech house and indie dance. KIZANO, BBTT and Phil Joshua Charley fill out a roster with real depth, and the recurring Disco Lu Ngel sessions swing the whole thing back toward the dancefloor. Every one of them is a homegrown selector. The Shelter builds its bill from the city's own and hands them a stage, and an audience that reaches well past the room they played in.
What the city gets from the stream
The deeper work is local. A free online stream is a rare kind of door for an emerging Yangon artist: play a set, and walk away with a recording the world can reach, with no label and no gatekeeper in between. The Shelter puts its mission plainly, and it is about the artists before anything else.
Part of the coalition
That instinct, the city's music first, is what makes The Shelter a natural part of Airtime Asia: the independent, decentralized coalition of underground radio stations from across the continent. From the 13th to the 16th of August 2026, those stations gather across Da Nang and Hoi An in Vietnam, The Shelter among them, with LnHD, the Yangon producer who folds Burmese tradition into electronic music, carrying the city into the lineup.
