In West Denpasar, on Jl. Yos Sudarso, far from the beach clubs of Canggu, six founders put a new radio station on the air. Paradise Under the Sun made its first broadcast in October 2025, and by January 2026 it was running around the clock. The name reads like a postcard. The address is a deliberate correction: this is radio from the working center of the island's capital.
A station in the center of Denpasar
Paradise Under the Sun describes itself, carefully, as the first of its kind in the city. "We could say we are the first independent alternative radio in Denpasar," is how Danika, one of the station's six founders, puts it. The hedge is the honest part, and the ambition behind it is real. The founders built the station to give Bali's alternative-music communities a single place to find each other, and to start documenting Denpasar's music history while it is still being made.
The curation follows from that. The founders lean toward artists with a long view, the ones making work meant to last. The site still tags itself "Tropical Vibes 24/7," a nod to where it lives. The artists it champions are Bali's own.
Who is on the air
This is where an older station would list its famous visitors. Paradise Under the Sun, only months into broadcasting, is honest about being too young for that, and it measures its reach a different way. In its first stretch on air it drew close to a hundred submissions from local DJs and artists who wanted a slot. The early roster is Bali's own: selectors like Terry McKassey, Sector66, Fullfill and Skvllragg, local artists from the island's scene. For the founders, that is the point. The station was built for the artists who live and work on the island, and for now they are the whole story.
What Denpasar gets from it
The deeper work is local, and it is about the map. Danika wanted the station to change where people look when they picture Bali's music, and she puts the mission simply:
By broadcasting from Denpasar itself, and by opening a channel for around a hundred local artists to submit their own sets, the station gives the city's scene a platform it did not have before. Every set it airs adds to a growing record of what Denpasar actually sounds like.
Part of the coalition
That instinct, local first and scene first, is what makes Paradise Under the Sun a natural part of Airtime Asia: the independent, decentralized coalition of underground radio stations from across the continent. From the 13th to the 16th of August 2026, those stations gather across Da Nang and Hoi An in Vietnam, the youngest among them carrying Bali's signal into the room.
